Christmas is coming up...

Christmas is coming up and we are all going to enjoy a nice, long Christmas vacation from VUC, but what are you all going to do during your Christmas holidays? How do you celebrate Christmas? What do you think about Christmas?

This blog is going to be a temporary class diary where you are expected to place at least two entries before we see each other on January 5. These entries count as a hand-in, and they have to be in English, of course! :) You are welcome to comment on each other's postings.
I am looking forward to hearing your thoughts! Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to all of you!

  1. Christmas is such a wonderful time. We are so lucky to celebrate Christmas two times. We do that because my husband mom and dad are devoiced. We are always together with his father the 23 and his mom d. 24. This also fits my family situation because I share my big son Rasmus with his father. This year we have Rasmus the 23rd and next year he will be at our house the 24th.
We like to celebrate Christmas two times but we do not get traditional Christmas food both days. However we get presents both days. It is nice because we love presents in our family both children and adults.
Many people stops to give presents to adults we will never do that what about you?
I wish you all a Merry Christmas and I hope you all will have many presents.

  2. Well Christmas vacation is a nice time to spend together with our families. However, mine wasn´t that great yesterday. I spend 3 hours at the emergency room, and now I have a little girl with her right arm in plaster... Great... But she´s tough, so she doesn´t complain :-) From now on, it can only get better. So merry Christmas everybody!

  3. Hello everybody, I hope that you enjoy your Christmas holiday, with your loved ones :)

Yesterday I went to Zealand, to visit my girlfriend. We have not seen each other for four months, so it was a happy reunion. We have been doing a lot of fun stuff. Tonight I’m going home to my boyfriend. In the next couple of days we are going to buy the last Christmas presents.

I hope you all have a great Christmas. :)

  4. The first day of our christmas holidays i woke up an thought that it wasn´t so much fun to have vacation... My body was aching and I was more thirsty than ever before. Then I remembered that I had been celebrating the start of the holidays with some of my class maids...
Well, I went to my parents and helped them moving to a new house. Believe it or not, in the middle of chaos of boxes my mother managed to find the one with her plastic christmas tree with colored ball on it!!
Since then I have been relaxing, taking long walks and doing a bit of exercising.

I´m looking forward to spend christmas eve in Sønderborg with my son; Lars, my daughter; Anita and my childrens father; Kim.
At 25. december we are going to my daughters place for a chrismas lunch with my grandchildren; Jonathan who´s nearly 6 years old and 4 ½ year-old Cecilia .

    Happy holidays for everyone.
Hope to see you all fit for fight on the fifth of januar

  5. Hi everyone

Am presently sat at my desk utterly and completely pooped (tired ;o) because I was cooking and catering all day yesterday; Tired in a good way, however, as we all had a really good time.
This year we cut down and decorated the Christmas tree earlier than usual, and we all agree that it was a good move as we get so much more enjoyment looking at it before 24th of December rather than after. Nothing but a mindset, I guess, but a new tradition has been born and the tree will go up a week prior to Christmas Eve from now on.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

  7. Hello everyone I hope you enjoy your Christmas holydays and have a god little Christmas evening.
I have had a very god vacation so far, I have been together with my girlfriend, family and friends and now I´m ready to tomorrow.

Later today, I´m going to Kerteminde together with some god friends and have a little Christmas dinner. Maybe we also will sail a little tour in my fishing boat. So I think it´s going to be a god day today.

  8. So tomorrow is the big day! :)
Today we have decorated our tree and are now preparing for tomorrow. We are going to be at home for Christmas Eve, just my own family and my mother-in-law. Since my husband is Canadian, we are having roast turkey and stuffing, sweet corn and potatoes.
I hope my 5-year-old son will survive meeting Santa Claus tomorrow. He is so scared of him that we had to promise that Santa is too busy to come inside, but will just leave the presents outside :)
Merry Christmas to all of you!

  9. Some might celebrate Christ, some family and some might celebrate that the days are getting longer.
The sun is sending darkness on full retreat and once more the sun will be victorious.
I hope that when we all sit down with our family, that we will take just a second to think about how lucky we really are.
We do not have to walk 40 miles a day for a bucket of water.
We do not have to leave our home because of war.
Be grateful for living in the cold north, and be happy that even when we think were having it rough as students, there is always someone out there who would give away their lives to be one us.

    Be gratefull.

  10. Hi everyone.

I hope that you enjoy your Christmas holiday together with your family and friends.
I enjoy the Christmas holidays, because I were unable to keep the holidays off because of my previous work. This year I can be with my family the whole Christmas 
Yesterday I had a nice evening together with Tanja and Christina J, and today is a very good day for me and my family. We got a great Christmas gift. My sister gave birth to a little, or a big little girl. (4255 g) They are both doing well but of course they are tried. Tonight we have celebrated my new niece and then we decorated the Christmas tree.
Tomorrow afternoon I will be together with my parents in their house and celebrate Christmas Eve and later my boyfriend will join us.

I wish you all a Marry Christmas.

  15. Dear all

Well, we’re now well on the other side of Christmas Eve, our bellies are bursting with excess food, and I bet we have all received a lot of things we didn’t even know we needed.
We’ve hopefully spent some wonderful leisure time with family and friends, and soon the holidays will culminate with a bang on New Years Eve.
Yesterday I drove my sons, Adam and Simon, back to their flats in Århus, and later today we will drive Rob’s mum to Billund where she’ll get on a plane to Manchester, so tonight will be very quiet indeed. :o(
I hope you’ve all had a great x-mas break and that each and every one of us will be full of energy when we meet again on 5th January. :o)

    Happy New Year everybody

    Very best wishes
    Annette

  22. The Christmas decorations are snugly packed away under the bed, eagerly waiting for December to arrive.
The rumbling and bubbling feeling in my tummy from the New Year party are on an all time high, while I sit back and think about what I have accomplished in 2011 and what I plan to achieve in 2012. With the determination of a pack of lion I will do my best to succeed. Nothing can stop me but myself.
This will be the year of ME…
Happy New Year to all of you.

  23. 2012 has startet and I have decided this is will be a year of devolopment! To finish Hf exam with all of you and start the education to become a nurse.
ALso time to get back on the track as a runner, first goal is 5 km, and time to progress as an oarswoman.

I´m not used to have so much time of, so this vacation has been very long for me, but good and healty.

On the 27/12 I went to a charity show in Sønderborg with my son. Comedy aid 2011 in benefit for cancer research. A most amusing and cheerfull evening. The big questions was : where is the line? Is it ok to make jokes about cancer? And I must say that they did and they did at the same time respectful and entertaining. A good way to collect money and give attention to the need of more resourses for the cause.

New years eve I was at work in Vejle home care, were I was to spread joy and help the elderly citizens (and to earn good money)
Afterward went to my friend Birgit to celebrate the new year´s arrivel with a glass of champagne.

    Happy new year for everyone.
I´m looking forward to see you at school soon :-)

  24. Hey everybody, I've just got a tip from Winni that, we should post two entries on this blog from our holiday. First I've hope you all had a nice christmas eve, I can tell you, that I did eventhough I couldn't enjoy as much of the christmas meal, as I am used to (stupid illness). So i'm going tell you, a little about my christmas, LAST year ;). It was a very special christmas for me this time, because I was going to experience, my sons first christmas ever. What a joy, to see my precious "baby"-(that he's definitely not anymore) crawling all over the place and constantly with direction to the christmas tree, with all the presents below, and how he just loved all that christmas food/candy. It was a lovely evening. I can tell you all that I am feeling much better now, and that I'm going join you again in the new year.

I hope you all had a great new years evening. I've just been told, that the woman I used to work for suddenly past away at new years eve. It made me very sad, she was a wonderfull woman and during the last 2 years she had been working on a film about choosing life with ALS. It will be shown on Dr1 at the 25 of january. Please watch if you can, and see, that life certanly can be great, even though you live with a life threatening disease. See you all on thursday :)

Some of you have had problems getting logged in. I will help you Thursday and then you can make your entries before the weekend!
And congratulations, Tanja, with your pregnancy! That is truly a special time in your life!

  28. Well, now I finally found time to sit down and write in this “Christmas health blog”.
Christmas holidays can be a stressful time for me. But in a good way! Visiting relatives and eating good old Danish food, buying presents along with the rest of Denmark and doing a lot of things that I don’t always have the time to do. Sometimes it’s hard to find the time for everything although it’s Christmas holidays.
Christmas evening I spent at my parent’s house with my parents, my sister and brother in law and my grandma and grandpa. And for the first time my girlfriend, Rikke, was with my family and me for Christmas. The whole evening went perfect, and the presents were great. :)
Looking forward to seeing you all Thursday !

  29. If you can pronounce correctly every word in this poem, you will be speaking English better than 90% of the native English speakers in the world. Have fun!

    Dearest creature in creation,
    Study English pronunciation.
I will teach you in my verse
Sounds like corpse, corps, horse, and worse.
I will keep you, Suzy, busy,
Make your head with heat grow dizzy.
Tear in eye, your dress will tear.
So shall I! Oh hear my prayer.
Just compare heart, beard, and heard,
Dies and diet, lord and word,
Sword and sward, retain and Britain.
(Mind the latter, how it’s written.)
Now I surely will not plague you
With such words as plaque and ague.
But be careful how you speak:
    Say break and steak, but bleak and streak;
    Cloven, oven, how and low,
Script, receipt, show, poem, and toe.
Hear me say, devoid of trickery,
    Daughter, laughter, and Terpsichore,
    Typhoid, measles, topsails, aisles,
    Exiles, similes, and reviles;
    Scholar, vicar, and cigar,
    Solar, mica, war and far;
    One, anemone, Balmoral,
    Kitchen, lichen, laundry, laurel;
    Gertrude, German, wind and mind,
    Scene, Melpomene, mankind.
Billet does not rhyme with ballet,
    Bouquet, wallet, mallet, chalet.
Blood and flood are not like food,
Nor is mould like should and would.
    Viscous, viscount, load and broad,
    Toward, to forward, to reward.
    And your pronunciation’s OK
    When you correctly say croquet,
    Rounded, wounded, grieve and sieve,
Friend and fiend, alive and live.
    Ivy, privy, famous; clamour
    And enamour rhyme with hammer.
    River, rival, tomb, bomb, comb,
Doll and roll and some and home.
Stranger does not rhyme with anger,
    Neither does devour with clangour.
Souls but foul, haunt but aunt,
Font, front, wont, want, grand, and grant,
Shoes, goes, does. Now first say finger,
    And then singer, ginger, linger,
Real, zeal, mauve, gauze, gouge and gauge,
    Marriage, foliage, mirage, and age.
Query does not rhyme with very,
Nor does fury sound like bury.
Dost, lost, post and doth, cloth, loth.
    Job, nob, bosom, transom, oath.
    Though the differences seem little,
    We say actual but victual.
Refer does not rhyme with deafer.
    Foeffer does, and zephyr, heifer.
    Mint, pint, senate and sedate;
Dull, bull, and George ate late.
    Scenic, Arabic, Pacific,
    Science, conscience, scientific.
    Liberty, library, heave and heaven,
    Rachel, ache, moustache, eleven.
    We say hallowed, but allowed,
    People, leopard, towed, but vowed.
    Mark the differences, moreover,
    Between mover, cover, clover;
    Leeches, breeches, wise, precise,
    Chalice, but police and lice;
    Camel, constable, unstable,
    Principle, disciple, label.
    Petal, panel, and canal,
    Wait, surprise, plait, promise, pal.
Worm and storm, chaise, chaos, chair,
    Senator, spectator, mayor.
Tour, but our and succour, four.
    Gas, alas, and Arkansas.
    Sea, idea, Korea, area,
    Psalm, Maria, but malaria.
Youth, south, southern, cleanse and clean.
    Doctrine, turpentine, marine.
    Compare alien with Italian,
    Dandelion and battalion.
    Sally with ally, yea, ye,
Eye, I, ay, aye, whey, and key.
    Say aver, but ever, fever,
    Neither, leisure, skein, deceiver.
    Heron, granary, canary.
    Crevice and device and aerie.
    Face, but preface, not efface.
    Phlegm, phlegmatic, ass, glass, bass.
Large, but target, gin, give, verging,
Ought, out, joust and scour, scourging.
Ear, but earn and wear and tear
Do not rhyme with here but ere.
Seven is right, but so is even,
    Hyphen, roughen, nephew Stephen,
    Monkey, donkey, Turk and jerk,
Ask, grasp, wasp, and cork and work.
    Pronunciation (think of Psyche!)
Is a paling stout and spikey?
Won’t it make you lose your wits,
    Writing groats and saying grits?
It’s a dark abyss or tunnel:
Strewn with stones, stowed, solace, gunwale,
    Islington and Isle of Wight,
    Housewife, verdict and indict.
    Finally, which rhymes with enough,
Though, through, plough, or dough, or cough?
Hiccough has the sound of cup.
My advice is to give up!!!

  33. Hello everyone.
Now it´s time to start in school again after a long Christmas holyday. I had a very god Christmas and New Year’s Eve. After such a long holyday it can be hard to start in school again but after this long holyday I think it´s nice to get started again. When the holydays get to long there are easy a lot of days passing by where you are not doing anything. I think it´s nice to be back and do something and learn every day. But if I know myself within a few weeks I want to have vacation again.

  35. Hi y'all.
Hope you all have had a wonderful vocation. As for me, I spent my Christmas and New Year vocation this year with my family in London. I was very happy to see almost all my family this Christmas. It was one of the best Christmas day in my life, with lot of different food, especially African food which I have not eaten in some years now. But the most important moment for me this Christmas was being together with my family, catching up on old times and just having fun makes my Christmas day one of the best. Happy New Year y'all.. :)
